Virtual Lunch & Learn: Bats in the Southern Appalachians

October 27, 2022(CT)11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Bat Appalacian

Bats are amazing creatures that are vital to the health of our natural world and economy. Worldwide, there are 1,456 species of bats, in the Southern Appalachians we have about 14 different species. Although we may not always see them, bats are hard at work – eating insects, pollinating flowers, and spreading seeds that grow new plants and trees.

Join Kyle Shute, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy Land Protection Associate as he discusses the general ecology, behaviors and habitats, and conservation issues of bats in our region. Hear what SAHC is doing to protect the bat population in our region and what you can do to help protect our vital bat populations.
